Suzy Homemaker Apron

What you’ll need:
1 yard floral patterned fabric
¼ yard polka dot fabric
3 yards cloth ribbon
1 square (6” x 6”) white fabric
Iron
Pins
Sewing machine + white thread
#14 Quilting needle

What you’ll do:
Step 1: Cut the floral fabric to 26”x18”
Step 2: Cut the polka dot fabric to 26” x 6”
Step 3: Fold over one long edge of each piece of fabric ¼ inch and iron
Step 4: Lay polka dotted edge on top of floral edge and pin in place
Step 5: Top stitch fabrics together using a medium loose zig zag stitch
Step 6: Hem bottom and sides of the fabric by folding over each edge by ¼” twice (to hide the raw seam) and ironing before sewing.
Step 7: Cut a piece of the polka dot fabric to 3” x 6”.
Step 8: Fold dot fabric in half and iron.  Then unfold and fold ends into the center so they each touch the pressed line.  Iron again.
Step 9: Fold back in half and tuck over the top of the white fabric square.  Sew across the top of the fabric to create the ‘top of the pocket.’
Step 10: Fold over remaining three edges of the white fabric square by 1/4” and iron.
Step 11: Place pocket on the apron where a pocket would be appropriate and sew three sides leaving the top open.
Step 12: Use a loose stitch to baste across the top of the apron.  Do not “knot” the ends
Step 13: Pull one thread from the basting stitch to gather the top of the apron.
Step 14: Fold over the gathered edge twice (to hide the raw edge) using the iron and pins to hold it in place.
Step 15: Place the center of the ribbon at the center of the top of the apron (on the front). And pin into place catching the gathered edge as you pin.
Step 16: Stitch across ribbon.
